ATSC
NTSC = Never The Same Colour
ATSC = Always The Same Colour
In other words, this program makes sure that
your machine is always in PAL mode.
Ed: This is a CLI-only utility, so you'll have to copy it from this
directory to your C directory of your Boot disk. Do this by changing
directory to this directory, then enter:
COPY ATSC TO C:
(( 27 )) (( 27 )) (( 27 )) (( 27 )) (( 27 )) (( 27 )) (( 27 )) (( 27 ))
As most PAL Amiga owners soon find out, their machines sometimes boot up
with a screen which is 20% too small vertically, 640*200 instead of
640*256. This is because a bug somewhere deep in the ROMs means that the
computer occasionally switches to NTSC mode for no apparent reason.
Rather than find out after your Amiga has ground through half an hour of
Startup-Sequence that your computer's screen is playing the pygmy, you just
have to copy ATSC to your C: directory, and insert the line
C:ATSC
on the second line of S:Startup-Sequence, immediately after
C:SetPatch >NIL: r
This will guarantee that a mimimum of time is wasted on NTSC mode.
ATSC checks DisplayFlags to determine the current video mode, and if the
NTSC flag is set, ATSC reboots the computer. Because ATSC checks this flag
rather than the size of Workbench's screen, interlaced or overscanned
screens shouldn't be a problem.
ATSC is freely distributable, providing the doc-file accompanies the
executable. I ask this simply so that no-one will lose a session's work
due to an unexpected reset.
